Can Your Kids Read Too Much?

My daughter reads, like, a lot. It’s actually become something of an issue that’s a little difficult to deal with. I mean,.on the one hand, it’s awesome, she loves reading, she reads across genre, encyclopedias, Harry Potter, Archie comics, you name it.

But. She reads all..the..time.

At breakfast, at the dinner table, instead of doing homework, instead of going to bed. It’s gotten to the point where she will sit at the dinner table with a book and refuse to take her eyes off it. We ask politely for her to put the book down and actually converse with her fellow humans before going back into her book cocoon but that usually elicits grumbles and groans.

MouseHunt – Movie Review

A recurring theme that will show itself soon enough is my reliance on movies that I or my wife saw and loved when we were much younger.  The movie that this, my inaugural post is about, is a shining example.  MouseHunt, a 1997 comedy about 2 brothers who simply try to remove a pesky mouse from their newly inherited mansion.

The Pout-Pout Fish – Book Review

A few Christmas’ ago, my mother gave this to my daughter as a holiday gift. It turns out that the series was written in coordination with Kohl’s as part of their Kohl’s Cares Charitable endeavor. Summary

Before I start, I’d like to point out that this is the very first article for new new Blog, DadTainment. So, yay me.

Ok, enough if that, let’s begin.

The Why

My kids have slowly started to gravitate towards watching YouTube or Netflix during their free time instead of playing. If my daughter Gabrielle isn’t reading, she’s watching YouTube, Simon hasn’t quite reached that point yet.  This got to be a problem as we couldn’t get them to go outside to play anymore and it caused arguments, every night before bed, every morning before school and every weekend.  I’m a tech guy so I opted for a tech solution.

The What

The Disney Circle is a piece of hardware, about the size of a very large coffee mug, which you connect to your home’s internet connection. The goal of this piece of hardware is to allow you to

  1. Control what your kids are watching
  2. Control how often and when they are connected to the Internet
  3. Control the sources of their content
  4. And have a Summary of their Line Activities.
